not starting problems

hi there, i have a golf mk4 tdi pd engine. its parked over night on my drive which is pretty steep. sometimes when i try starting it, it will not start unless pump the pedal 3-4times then it will. recently i have noticed a noise coming from the in tank pump (its like a juddering noise) it does it when you turn the ignition on (not when engine running) mainly when your parked on a slope. i have just changed the fuel filter and has had no effect.

i,ve been to a couple of local garages and i got told that either the pumps on its way out or i could have a leaky injector seal. ( would i not have diesel in my oil if i had a leaky injector)

if i had either of these would they show up if i had it plug in to a computer

hi, people fro those garages were right about possible faults. the only thing is that you have to dtermini the right one. as fpr yhe pedal pumping it has no effect. as for diesel in the oil, well that is not large amount of diesel that gets in the cilinders but enough to reduce pressure that is needed for starting. when you start the engine is it working normal or is it juddering for few seconds. and take a look at exaust for white or blue smoke

hi thanks for your advice, there is no smoke from the exhaust when running it looks fine. once it starts it runs fine.any other ideas thanks dave

what year is the car and what is the engine letter code?

53 plate ATD

I would change injestor seals and that should sort the problem out. I had two ATD engines last week with same problem.
