    Hi,
I was looking at a VW golf mk5 2.0 gt tdi the other day which said it had a full vw service history. It was 4 years old and 60k on the clock.

However i could not see any mention of timing belt and saw in the lst service a lot of things that would be 'due' like brake disks all round and air con compressor noisy.

I obviously don't want to land myself with a massive bill straight after buying the car (independant garage) by having an expensive service.

I was wondering can i ring any VW garage with the reg plate and find out exactly what was done on the last 'major service' and sort of what is expected to be done on the next service and expected cost?

I can then use it as a bragaining tool or walk away from the deal i guess?

    Thanks,

Call VW customer service for service history.
I would call the garage that done the last service and ask if any "extra work"
    was done

Well the woman was a bit shirty obviously must have been busy and did not like me wasting her time.

I asked what services it had there (to confirm it was accurate with the log book stamps) and what was done on the last service, when the next one was approx due and did it show in the records if it had the cambelt done at any service.

She told me all the answers and said no - she could not see that the cambelt was done on this car unless it was done elsewhere.

Thankfully the garage i am buying it off (after i expressed my concerns) have said they will get the cambelt and water pump done for me.

I'm glad i found out etc and am pleased with the outcome.

It's being done at an indendant garage and not VW but it has a good reputation so all should be good.

I rang for the same question just yesterday, i was told 4yrs or 60k not 80k although that won't make any difference for you is its 4yearsd old.
I haven't yet got my service book for the car to check in there.

    the 1.9 is 60k, the 2.0 is 80k. Well, my 2004 2.0 TDI 140 is 80K anyway.
