hi.my passenger window will not go up or down but i can hear the motor working.i was wondering if this could be the plastic clips that a lot of people mention or whether the window may have come off of the runner?

sounds like the regulator to me, unless you were trying to open the window in this freezing weather we've been having lately...

the plastic clips you speak of are part of the regulator assembly, if it turns out to be this, you have two options, go to your local dealer and bend over while he gives you a quote for the new part or search on eBay, i have seen regulator kits on there for around £30/40....

youve hit the nail on the head there mate.don't know why i didnt mention it but thats exactly what i did.in that case what dya think it is?i actually tried to lower both front windows to clear the ice(stupid i know but never had any problems with other cars and sometimes its quite effective!!)but only having problems with the passenger side!
should have a look really but dont know where to start in taking door cards off.anyone point me in the direction of a good tech guide or post that details this??!

LOL oh dear, i've been driving 15 months and even i know not to try and lower your electric windows when their frozen LOL nevermind, spilt milk and all that. taking the door cards off really isnt that hard mate, there will simply be several securing screws for the door cards. id guess at the plastic clips you have mentioned. ill have a look for a guide and post it up when i get chance for you, in the meantime a techie might help you out....

hi guys, ive been having the same problems with my passenger window (01 passat). Due to freezing weather also i reckon (I know, I'm a muppet for trying to open them!). Window doesn't budge now but I'm gettin this crunching sound though which doesn't sound too healthy at all! Are you getting this sound? Took the front panel off, not that straightforward i don't think, alot of glue in and around the inside door handle i had to break through. Can see the motor and regulator but can't get to the window side/rollers because of another aluminium panel which looks like it rivetted on. There are a few more star head screws at the side of the door that might open up the whole lot, but i think i need a manufacturers bit for that....what do ye reckon??

    Cheers, Eoghan
