2003 (53 reg) Passat TDI 130 - noisy...

I have just bought a Passat TDI 130 SE, and I have found it to be quite noisy it's doing my head in! My last car was a Passat TDI Tiptronic, and it was as quiet as a mouse! Is it due to different gearboxes or is there something like a blowing exhaust or is there something else I should watch for?

I also had the Engine management light come on (with a pic of a glow plug) and warning "SERVICE, NOW!"), but then this went out very quick.

have I bought a dog in distress?

I don't want to spend a lot in the VW dealers, I don't have that much money...

Ignore my post, I think it's okay now... I topped up the oil. I'm adjusting to the noise, it's b'cos I was in a virtually silent Tiptronic TDI..

That message to do with Engine Mgmnt. hasn't come up since, so fingers crossed...

Just to give you the heads up if you get that engine management light up again and the message ENGINE WORKSHOP (glow plug) then it will be your brake light switch (providing there is no loss in power etc)

Had this recently on my 53 Passat TDI sport, the switch is approx £6.75 and takes about 45mins to replace.

Is it cruising noise or engine noise? When I got mine it had Michelin Pilot tyres and they were too noisy, I got Goodyear Excellence and they are nice and quiet like a pair of old slippers.
