    hi people

Got a problem with a 2004 a3 2.0 fsi wondered if anyone could help or may of heard of similar problems?
On start-up from cold the car is great but once its up to tempreture i could only describe it as sounding just like a diesel, theres a low extra knocking noise that sounds like it may be coming from the timing chain end of the engine
Now ive changed the oil and filter just to rule out issues there but still the same so ive taken off the cam cover to look for any obvious signs there and taken off the cover for the timing chain to look for any excessive wear etc and cant see anything really obvious but i can depress the cam chain fully down with my thumb anyone know if that is normal or does it sound maybe a little weak??
Any help would be most welcomed as im really stuck now and really could do without a trip to the main *******s at the mo!
    Thanks guys

the chain and tensioner are very common and the tensioner is oil supply fed so when the engine is off there will be some movement but not a lot so the chain and the tensioner requires replacing

    thanks again

    Allan

Yes but you can also Deactivate the stratified charge (dealer only) which will reduce hard combustion noise.Second qestion=yes

Thanks does deactivating the stratified charge just reduce the performance slightly?(disabling the fsi itself) and can it be carried out by someone with a bit of know how using vag-com or is it a dealer only operation?

    thanks again

vag com doesnt support flash updates but you can turn it off

Deactivate the stratified charge as follows:

    1. Select self-diagnosis 01 engine electronics

    2. 11 code II, entry 10011

    3. 10 adjustment of channel 15 (homogenous lean), channel 16 (stratified charge outside idle speed), channel 17 (stratified charge at idle speed)

The activation temperatures can be set in the individual channels. By changing the basic value to 255 the respective operating type is deactivate

performance willremain the same but fuel consumption will increase

there is also a flash update that only vas machines can implement so i adise you to use the dealer for the hole job and expect you to only pay 1 hours labour
