Was the sensor genuine or pattern? I will not use pattern sensors as they have caused me so much trouble in the past. What fault codes are being stored on the ECU?

    Hi Crasher

I have not got a fault code lastr time i took it in for a fault cade reading they charged me £55.00 for the reading with no faults logged so bit reluctant to go back do you know if the Sharan is OBD2 compliant as i have acess to a RAC fault code reader wich my work P Reg 2.0L GL ADY engine code

Sensor was an Intermotor sensor car the old one was definatley shot the wires crumbled to pieces as i removed it the jerky ness is only present when the car is first started and clears within 5 min it has been suggested that as the car has done 80K it may be the Lamda sensor.

    Thank you for your assitance

    Peter

The ADY isn’t OBD II compliant but does have an ODB II style plug. If there was no fault code logged over the crank speed sensor G28 then I doubt it was actually causing a problem even if the wires were breaking up but I have had them not register before. As I said, non genuine sensors have caused me terrible problems in the past and I know Intermotor well, they are just up the road from my house in Hucknall and I will not use their sensors. It may be that the new sensor is OK but until you have fitted a genuine VDO manufactured sensor supplied by VAG UK I will not trust it, even those from Hella are a joke. One chap went through four different aftermarket sensors before he gave up and sent the car from Peterborough to me in Nottingham on a trailer. I read the codes and they were clear so I watched the live data and then fitted a new genuine sensor. He came to collect it that evening! It may be that I am wrong and you will waste £158.65 (part number 037 906 433 A) but until you change it…

If it was the lambda sensor, it would log a code.

    HI Crasher

Changed the lamda sensor all symptoms have gone car runs sweet as a nut no jerky traction so fingers crossed she will get up in the morning and it will behave if not i will have to send it in for a fault code reading as i have been unable to locate a fault code reader suitable.

I will let you know how it goes

thank you for your assitance much appreciated

    Kind Regards

    Peter

Hi Crasher this morning the jerking started very slight car runs much better than before sent it into a recommended VW specailist as the main dealer is a waste of space code found logged in system 00523 = Intake air temp sensor Sporadic or open circuit have been told by specilist that air mass meter if faulty does not log code i howver will start with the sensor as i said this fault only relay accours when the car is cold.

i would be intrested to hear you thoughts

    Thanks once again

    Cheers

    Peter

The IAT sensor G42 (6W0 906 081 £21.26 from VW) is a unit plugged into the side of the air cleaner just after the AMM and will only cause hot starting problems, that fault code will probably have been generated by someone disconnecting the sensor with the ignition on.

Thank you for all your help the new sensor is on order and should be in on tuesday i will change it any way just for peace of mind.

that should end this sagga however what would cause the rear windscreen wiper to stop half way across the back screen whilst on intermitant wipe when in wash mode it works without stopping ant ideas

Usually the park circuit on the motor failing or a broken wire in the tailgate to body tubing.
