    Hi I have a Audi A3 2001 Y Reg 5 door.
The service light keeps coming on and i need to reset it. I also want to have a play with the vag sw before I buy.

Please can someone tell me what cables i need and wether my car is VAG ODB1 or ODB2 etc.

As you can tell I dont have much knowledge on this topic so looking for some help to start off.
I have been doing alot of reading but all quite confusing.

    Any Help Appreciated

    Thanks.

yep, as hex says. i have a cable from him and it works well.

you can get free (shareware) vagcom software to have a play with, however IIRC VAGcom needs to be registered to be able to reset service lights.

a full license to go with the cable is $99

for your car a standard 409.1 compatible cable will be required (which is obd 2)

you can check up on the compatability on www.ross-tech.com which is the vagcom writer's site. there are excellent online demos, and a wealth of knowledge on there.

EE's cables should work on most VAG cars from around 2000-2005.

before 2000 they had different connectors, and around 2005 they went over to can-bus, which looks the same, but needs a "smart" cable.
