    Hi All

I purchased a 2002 130PD 1.9TDI ST bora at the weekend and I am so far thrilled with it

The car is completely standard except a set of 18" audi RS4 alloys (replicas). This has made the car look very jacked up, especialy at the rear.

Im very keen to keep the comfort but lookswise I would like the car to be about 35-40mm lower. From reading a few posts here and there it would seem coilovers are the only real decent option to solve this. Can anyone recommend a decent set to go for? and any good fitters on the south coast (portsmouth area)?. I am on a tightish budget, but would still like the overall quality of the car to not be comprimised so would plump up the extra if needs be.

    Your thoughts would be great.

    Many thanks

    James

Coilovers will ruin the ride. I have lowered lots of Boras and one for a forum member a few weeks back. We use Vogtland kits in either Junior or Sport versions, the ride height is spot on for looks and the comfort level quite acceptable on the Junior and Sport kits with Bilstein dampers although the upgrade option to Alko Sport dampers is quite a lot stiffer.

Give or take a few founds £500. That is for the Junior kit, front and rear bump stops, fasteners that have to be replaced, tracking and labour.

I am the member who had the Junior kit fitted a few weeks back, and can confirm that ride quality is not massively affected, sure the low speed ride is not brilliant but crusing is still fine.

Looks wise i think it is fine, I got approx 30-35mm lowering, didnt want anymore than that due to possible sump damage.

See link below (If it works) for some before and after pics. (Note the new alloys are 17")

It also depends on your opinion on what constitutes ruining the ride plus it also depends on the chosen ride height and damper setting if it is adjustable. The main problem with coilovers is that they often don't come with progressive springs but there are notable exceptions such as Koni and Vogtland. A fixed height kit will generally provide a better ride quality than a coil over.

Vogtland have been in business for 100 years this year, but not making suspension kits that long! We are the UK importer and I think they are top notch kits. We were the sole UK importer for Weitec for ten years and I personally think they are better than Weitec. A full Sport kit costs £500 fitted inc. VAT, bump stops and tracking but a Junior kit can cost from around £230 just supplied. I am on holiday at the moment so you would need to ring the office and speak to John or Roy to get an exact price on 01159785740.

First of all, Hi to all!

I have a bora 2.0 se on 225.40.18 et35. Will i have any problem with lock to lock and grinding with Vogtland Junior?
I too just wanted to drop it by 30mm or 35mm max. I got some RS6's for mush less so I thought I'd spend the money I saved on wheels on some lowering kit.
Can Vogtland Spring kit work well with OE dampers?
The car only look good when I'm looking at it from upstairs window. lol
