Had the same on my 1.8t AUM, both lights illuminated and very ocassionaly the ABS would kick in at low speeds just before I would come to a stop. Long story short, it was the front nearside ABS (speed sensor or whatever it is called). Replaced that about £20ish and all has been well ever since. HTH

Have a look under the flap on top of the battery aswell, there are three 15A fuses, they tend to either burn out or the ends corrode, its these three that are in link with the module.

Or how about using the diagnostic facilities provided by the manufacturer and having a code read done which will tell you exactly what is wrong with it, or am I just being obtuse?

So have you checked your brake lights ?

If they are ok I recommend a fault code read rather than changing parts for fun.

    ABS Hydraulic Pump - V64-
    Signal outside tolerance
    Sporadic.......

    as per VAG 1551B

All you need to do is on top of the battery, is the ABS fuse box with 3 x 15A fuses, remove the three fuses on the right, either replace them or clean them up using wd40 and soft emery paper...they suffer from slight corrosion / burring and this give you the SPORADIC fault. if it was abs pump failure, it wouldnt be sporadic. You'd pay £580 for an ABS pump, when you'l still have the 3 fuses causing ur probs
