I am aware that in the past for new engines it was always advised that you keep them under 3000rpm for the first 1000 miles. Is this still the case with new cars (especially the GTI) or is it just an urban myth?

Awaiting delivery and don't want to harm the little fella...

It's the case with me and also no more than 3/4 of the maximum speed (and I think it's something like 1500 miles).

Congrats in getting the GTi, but @ a push probably no more than 80mph. Getting each gear @ 2500rpm is probably quick enough to get the car going @ speed limit.

Cheers for the advice. Going to be looking after this one so going to be careful - have to be careful with the speed of it as well as it was so easy just to put your foot down and go. It seems to be able to pick up speed in every gear so best not to have too much of a heavy right foot!

I think the main thing is not to let the engine labour in any gear .
The days of not taking your engine above certain speeds are now gone !! you used to have to take your car and have the engine oil changed after 1,000 miles

Good luck with your new car

Thanks for the advice - going to keep an eye on it but wont push it too hard at the start.

I'm like a child waiting for Christmas waiting for the new car to be built...
