    Hi Everyone,

Ive now got access to a fully registered version of Vag-Com. I was just playing with it (on a beginner level) and have done some cool things with the help of the ross tech guide.

So far ive activated auto lock & unlock, Horn when locking & unlocking, Changed region to USA so i get the chime when driver door is open and key still in, washer fluid warning and seatbelt warning.

Im going to take the seat belt warning off as its annoying.

Few questions if anyone would like to help:

The horn when locking - mine has a chirp instead of the horn, is this normal? also the chirp is really quite, is there any way of making it louder?

Also is there anything else i can modify with the vag-com? ive got a golf mk4 tdi 2000 90 bhp. Ive pretty much tried most things in the ross tech guide but was wondering if there was anything else.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Im hungry and need feeding

Just a few more concerns if anyone can help:

The washer fluid warning is always on even though the fluid is full. What could be causing this?

The rear fog lights do not come on. Could this be beacuse i changed the region to America?

I now have a visual seatbelt indicator for about 10 secs when turning ignition on, is there anyway to get a visual or audio notice to come on if a seatbelt is not being worn or is taken off?

    Any help would be appreciated

Have you definitely got the sensor in the washer reservoir? If so, then I would have thought you would have had the washer fluid warning already. Have you got the DIS wiper stalk (the one with buttons on the end)? If not, then it is unlikely you have the washer sensor (since for the UK car, anyway, the washer warning is part of the DIS) and so activating the warning will just mean it goes off all the time. You can short this by grounding pin one behind the instrument cluster (I have done this) but there doesn't seem much point if you haven't installed the DIS. I am not familiar with changing the region of the car and am not aware of what changes this might have, but maybe the USA cars have the sensor, whether they have DIS or not?

Hi thanks for the quick reply. I do have the DIS stalk but have never been warned when my washer fluid needed topping up. Its not a big problem as i'll just connect it up to vag com again and take it off.

As for the changing of the region to the USA the only differences it seems to have made is the chime when door is open and the key is left in and the clock turns from a 24 hour clock into a 12 hour clock. But my rear fogs have gone (not sure if this is cause of the region change but what i'll do is revert it back to UK settings and see whether the rear fogs work).

    Vag Com rocks

I'm interested in a description as to how you made the car 'chirp' when locking/unlocking. I would like to do this to my A6, and people keep sending me to Ross-Tech help pages which I can't find an answer to.

    Can you help ?

    Hi Paul,

I have found this page, which appears to detail the Central Locking Coding for the A6. It is based on US cars, which means you might have to take into account the fact that your car might have a different default value than theirs, but it should be easy enough to work out. I found this whilst I was looking too, if it's of any use?

    Hope it helps!

    Hi Paul,

What i did was: select module 46 Central Convinience, Clicked on adaption 10, typed in channel 05 and set the value to 1 (Unlock chirp on), then channel 6 and set the value to 1 again (lock chirp on).

This did it for me. However in alot of vag cars the chirp is the horn but on mine for some reason it was a chirp.

    Hope this helps

Unfortunately, the A6 works differently and I cannot enter channel 46, you go through 35 central locks instead. But thanks for trying !

    Hi Ade

My car does indeed have a different default value than theirs. If I match my car up with the table they produced, then my car is in the 2nd one down in the table with the Concert radio. The table states my cars coding should be 15176, when it is actually 06859. However, the information provided from your link says that -1024 removes the horn chirp. So, to add this horn chirp, do I add 1024 back on ? Or does it not work like that ?

Also, because the American numbers are different to mine, is the value I am supposed to add/subtract actually 1024 in the first place ?

Sorry to bother you with this Ade and sorry for jumping in on tsunami's thread.

Hi Paul, No bother. I am no expert, but I would *guess* that US/UK cars have the same ECU, which is why they have the option to code them differently (rather than building completely separate ECUs for different markets). If so, then the 1024 value will be the same, and yes, I would think that if you +1024 on to your coding this would do the trick.

As for the discrepancies between the 2 different values, assuming your car is a saloon and the one they used was an avant, then I *think* I have decoded them. If you take their number, 15176, then -8192(USA only option) -256(Avant), then +128(RHD) +2(flash on arm) + 1(UK car) you get 6859 which is your coding.

If it were me, I would try adding 1024 and see what happens! I can't see it doing any harm - if it doesn't make it chirp as you expect then just put it back again!

    Cheers,
    Ade
