    Hi,

I have a 2003 1.8T with about 108k miles on the clock. Last year, I was driving on the motorway and the oil warning light came on which turned out to be the oil pickup clogging and the top of the engine didn't get any oil. The oil pick was changed but around 12 months on the car is still smoking (Garage guy said it was a "used" engine and expect to use a litre of oil every 1,000 miles).

There is blue and white smoke coming out of the exhaust but there isn't any signs of water under the oil cap. The smoking is worst when idling and doesn't happen when travelling on a motorway.

I have a feeling it's the PCV valve under the manifold which is at fault but the guy at the garage said it could be the turbo. But there again it could be anything!

I still have boost from the turbo and there isn't any strange noises coming from the engine either, just blue and white smoke coming out the exhaust and a thirst for oil.

Can anyone please help as I'm thinking of taking the car on holiday next week.

    Thanks,

    Richie.

I would expect that the original turbo was re-used and it is the turbo burning oil.

You're right Crasher, it is the turbo, confirmed by a mechanic this morning.

The next question is, where can I buy another K03 turbo brand new? I saw a K03 on ebay yesterday and normally I would be ok with buying things from there, but for some reason I'm a little wary. Any thoughts? Also, the car is the 163bhp version, does that mean I need the k03 (150bhp) or k03s (180bhp)?

    Cheers Bez, very helpful

    Richie.

If you buy one genuine from Audi, you get a two year warranty that includes labour, even if it is fitted by an independent garage.

After much deliberation I have decided to look in to repairing the turbo in a bid to keeping the cost down. There are K03 repair kits on ebay and I'm going to contact KKK themselves for a kit. Has anyone tried doing this or does anyone know of online guides for taking off a turbo and stripping it down?

    Thanks,

    Richie.
