    Hi Guys

    Sorry to sound dumb, but is there a separate belt used to drive the Air Condition Unit?

    I know theres the timing belt and then a drive belt which turns the Alternator, Power Steering etc. Does this belt also power the Air Conditioning Unit?

    The reason why i ask is, when i press the Air Con button, the blower comes on at speed but the temp remains the same .. its doesnt cool at all?

    When looking at the pulleys, i only can make out 2 belts but i think i should have a third or am i being greedy!!!

    My Audi A4 is a 1999 model, any ideas?

    There are three belts;

    1, Timing belt, totally hidden behind covers.
    2, Alternator, power steering belt.
    3, Aircon compressor belt.

    Your problem with the aircon not working is unlikely to be caused by the belt unless it is missing.

    Have you had the system re-charged / re-gassed as this causes most problems. Second to that would be a faulty pressure switch.

    Hi BigCol

    Cheers for the post.

    Perfect, thats al i needed to know. when i pop open the bonnet, i only seem to see 2 belts, one around the alternator and the other toward the left (which i assume i th timing belt). To cut a long story short, i recently had a new alternator belt put on cos it snapped so im thinking that the air con belt also snapped??? will need to confirm with my mechanic, but least i now know how many it should have

    before it snapped, the aircon was working perfectly. I dont use the air con that much. got it refilled from halfords last year. guess it wont harm getting it checked tho.

    going forward, am i likely to risk any damage? will it freeze up?
