What have the dealer/VW UK reccomended? I'd be more inclined to get a tow myself in case there's further damage - wouldn't it be more inconvenient to get half way and then need a tow instead of just arranging a tow.
I know nothing about cars so I can't advise as to what the Ignition coil is though...
