    It is indeed a fault.

You really need to get it read for faults to be sure, however......

One of the most common causes believe it or not is a faulty brake light switch. Are your brake lights working? If not an easy DIY fix and about £12 for the switch.

Just be careful to observe how the switch comes out

In that case try the bulbs first, then suspect the switch if the bulbs dont sort it.

no more advice really, 9/10 times it's the brake light switch.

check the bulbs, then the brake light switch, 99% certain it'll be one of the two

i just swapped the indicator bulb for the brake light and it worked so it must be the bulbs

but would the blown bulbs throw on the flashing coil light??

    thanks

    Hi Fleng,

    Please forgive the pun, but this may shed light on the subject;

Using VAG-COM to diagnose a faulty Brake Light Switch

Other possibilities (won't necessarily generate a fault code):
    • Fuse 13
    • Faulty brake light bulbs (12V 21W, G4/Bora top bulbs in rear cluster)
    • Bad wiring
    • Relay 13 has also been mentioned (but I don't know enough to comment)
    thanks tr7
by the looks of it the blown brake light bulbs wont throw on the flashing coil warning light, it must be something else

so ill have to get it plugged it to read the fault
    thanks anyway
