    Hi

I pulled into my drive last week and noticed my wife had left the lights on in the golf. When I opened it to turn them off, I saw the switch was already off

I went to check the lights were definitely on and saw that it was only the drivers side headlight/sidelight and rear light on the back.

then turned the lights on and everything worked normally. Turned them off, and it went back to its monocle look.

After playing around for a few minutes, got it to turn off properly.

    Any ideas?

Sounds like the indicator was down/up, they go into parking light mode if the ignition is switched off with the indicators on.

I'm sure thats not it, with respect. I double checked that, and in fact, knocked the indicator on while I was checking everything.

If that was the case though, would it cause only 1 side's lights to turn on?

Wow, learn something new every day. I'll have a play tonight and see if thats it, but I'm still sceptical. Normally when the indicator is left on a warning alarm sounds.

did the interior lights work when you opened the door?

as crasher says it sounds like the parking lights, and if the interior lights did not come on, then it might suggest that the door open switch is sticking, hence no warning of indicator left on.

    long shot though...
