    Hi
I am just about to flush and refill a golf pd130 i got at auction a week ago, it is currently lubricated by treacle.

    So it needs vw 505 01 spec I have scanned around and found;

    millers xfe pd 5L £41
    Castrol EDGE 5W-30 4L £44
Fuchs TITAN GT1 LONGLIFE III 5W-30 Premium Synthetic 4L £40
    Motul VW SPECIFIC 504 00-507 00 5W-30 5L £45
    Mobil Syst S Special V 5W-30 4L £45

I intend to change the oil annually / 10k whichever comes first

which do you people usually use (please give me other options) especially if you got something closer to £30 / 5L - after all i drive a diesel to save money

    cheers

    Gareth

505.01 is 5w40 IIRC, Dont cheap out on it but I think you should be paying about £30 to £35 for some good stuff

    Hi Gareth,

I would use Castrol EDGE 5w-30 (507 00) Just because it's a very good oil and you can pick up 3x1Ltr at Costco for £11 inc vat...

Use the correct 505.01 spec and you will need more than 3L

You will need more than 3 Ltrs! But nothing stopping him getting 6Ltrs for £22 and then you've got plenty for top up!(if you need it) 507 00 spec is a higher grade so your putting better oil in you engine!... Go on the Castrol oils site and type in your reg and it will tell you exactly what oil you need...

507.00 is the low ash oil for the later tdi engines with a DPF it does not mean it is a better spec for all engines, Sorry I thought you meant £11 for 1L

No problem... But in Gareth posting there must have been a reason why he stated Castrol Edge (507 00) as well as all the other 507 00 spec oils! Sure you can't always use this oil in certain types of VAG power units! But I am aware that this oil is for DPF TDi but I can't see why he couldn't use this it...

But I stand corrected if this oil is not a higher spec than 505 01 As when I called Castrol to find out what oil I needed for a A6 3.2 FSI I was told by the Oil tech guy that 507 00 surpast all the other specs! And in my case the oil had FSI protection...

right scratch that - £20 a year 4 membership of costco and my nearest one is in bristol (i live in Cornwall.....)

I just cobbled a list of oils together from a couple of sites that had oils suitable for pd engines - I don't want long service oil (which is 507 i think) cause basically no oil lasts that long in normal (rather than ideal) driving conditions.

I believe that once you get to suitable for pd/ 505 (and any revisions after that) it's good enough for my 130.

    any other good value suggestions?

    thanks
