I have a 98 a4. the 2.8 v6 quattro model and when i turned it on this morning it failed to go into gear without using all the stregnth in my arm.

the car was fine yesterday. didnt smell of clutch in any way either.

if the cars turned off i can freely move the gear stick around and it slots into gear perfectly. But as soon as the engines running and i hold the clutch down to change gear the gear stick just wont slot into place without a hell of alot of force.

Im hopin this is down to the hydrolic fluid in my clutch having air bubbles in it what not. but im fearing for the worst.

anyone had this problem before? anyone know what it could be?

    Cheers

    Hi there

Just a thought, but should you be depressing the brake as well, is there a safety thing like the automatics Cant move out of park or nutral unless holding the brake. Most probably way off, but never know.

does sound like clutch drag. Does it improve if you give the clutch a couple of pumps ?

if so then you are losing pressure to the slave clutch cylinder.

the slave cylinder is my guess, have you lost any fluid from the brake/clutch resevoir?

Sadly whilst driving it last night the car made a horrific bang and the clutch no longer exsists.

Guess this is going to be a pricey one
