oil filter tool for golf mk4 99 tdi 110

i went to do a service on the car over the weekend i only managed to change the fuel,air,pollen filters, i wanted to change the oil but could not get the filter off !, i thouhgt they were usually hand tight but this f**ker would budge for s**t, do i need a special tool?

you should manage with an ordinary socket set/ratchet for the drain plug,
although they can sometimes be absolute pigs to get out,and the access
isn't great. if you hit problems getting the plug out i would advise forgetting about it and get yourself either a sump pump or bilge pump available from
ships chandlers,and suck the oil out of the dipstick tube.
with regard to the filter strap, the chain type is more likely to damage the filter when removing it,which may cause problems if you then find that
the new filter is the wrong one.also,you need a lot of room to use them
whereas the other type can be used with a ratchet and extension if access is tight.

The guy at GSFparts gave me one of these, but its the 74mm size not sure as ive not tried it yet.

Yeah, forget the chains. They're rubbish. Even when used on metal filters, you'll be lucky to get it off without puncturing it and spilling oil from it. And anyway, on the TDI filters (well, the plastic housing for it) they will score the cap badly as there's pretty much nothing for it to grip on to. It'll probably work, but expect to be forced to buy a new one after a few changes. Got my metal removal tool from GSF and it makes the filter removal a piece of cake.

With regard to the sump plug, it's just a 17mm (I think) bolt, but best removed with a socket as it is slightly recessed. This should be renewed for each change.
