    Hi all,

I have recentley had my turbo replaced (under warrenty) on my 2001 golf after 55,000 miles and seem to be experianceing some problems,

I dont know if it is just me but i seem to have problems in 3rd gear

The turbo seems to kick in around 2200 revs but now (only in 3rd) it seems to want to wait till around 4000 revs witch is resulting in low power whilst climing the gears.

has anyone experienced this ??? or am i going mad

    Please cast your thoughts...

    Thank you.

    Petrol or Diesel?

2200 rpm sounds unusually high? My golf mk3 tdi turbo kicks in at 1900 and I find that high! Ie, if you're in the low rev range..and floor it, its sometimes quite an irritating wait for it to kick in.

As for third gear...4000 revs? Something is definately wrong there..do you have a VAG Com?

as above! 4k is a lot on the rev meter for the turbo to be kicking in on 3rd gear, my advice....get it back to the place that replaced it under warranty, let them work on it, if you start diagnosing faults and working on it you'll void any warranty you have with the turbo. as far as i am aware, they have replaced the part under warranty, therefore it is now their responsibility to sort any resulting problems also.

    Thank you for your advice.

but what do i say.... ? i could tell you the long drawn out story of the turbo but short virsion is it took 4 months for the garage to replace as the said there was nothing wrong i had to take head engineer out for a drive to prove it..... also had ignition coil engine temp sensor and some abs parts replaced in same 4 months.

So how will i get them to listen to this problem... when i dont know whats wrong. I have been told there could be a vacume leek would this show up on the di testing ????

But its deffo 2200 i had it on a rolling road when i got it.. (im crap when it comes to cars i can tell a problem just listining to the engine but once i pop the bonnet im lost)((can do service stuff like oil change, spark plugs &
    brakes but thats my lot.))

    Cheers

I agree, take it back and get them to look at it. You don't have to be an expert to realise there is a problem. You just need common sense. You're not expected to know what's wrong, otherwise you would have fixed it yourself.

Just tell them, your turbo kicks in at 4000 revs in third gear. Relitave to the other gears that feels late. Therefore there is a problem. Take them for a drive so they can see it for themselves and take it from there.
