    Hi All,

First post so hello to everyone and excuse the ignorance if I ask something obvious.

I have an Audi A4 1.9 TDI on a 04 plate and have an airbag light on which im sure is the driver seat airbag. I also have a service light on which I need to reset.

Now I know that VAG-COM can help confirm this and reset and I have downloaded the software but im not sure exactly what cable I need. I have looked on Ross-tech and from the below link it indicates I have a B6 platform

    http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/car...ions/a4s4.html

    So I need the following.
    http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/hex-usb+can.html

However, having read a few posts here I can get a cable off ebay. Somebody recommended a cable from an ebay user alpha-bid but the link below says 'NOT compatible with vehicles on the CAN-BUS System. Email us for CAN-BUS compatible cable information. '

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-Vag-Com-Ca...3286.m14.l1308

So is this the right cable and will this work for what I want to do?

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks
    Shazzav

You dont need a canbus cable 1 dont think, you could use 1 from eshrules on this forum and then register the sofware with ross-tech, that is the cheapest way or you could buy an expensive 1 from www.ross-tech.com and have a up to date 1.

if your car is on the B6 platform, it will need a canbus compatible cable, being an 04 plate, it's practically a certainty.

Sorry - I disagree. The B6 platform does not perform diagnostics via CAN. Sure I would like shazzav to buy a HEX+CAN interface from Ross-Tech but it is not required for this car. As the application page he sighted clearly states - either a HEX series interface or our non-CAN interface, the KEY series will work with the B6 A4.

I have a B7 A4. That platform has half of its electronics on CAN and half on the old K lines. The only interface that will work on the B7 platform is the HEX series.

    Hi there,

I agree with Bruce, the B6 doesn't require CAN yet the B7 does due to it's half and half Can/K-Line diagnostics.
