no lights on dash clocks

drove home last night and the lights that are on the speedo/rev counter etc have stopped working...any ideas where to start?

its a passat 1999 1.8 petrol.

Hi, I have looked at the wiring diags untill I am cross eyed on this one and I would start at the lighting controll switch and the dash display dimmer switch.
If the rest of the dash lights are working then as all of the dash lights seem to be on the same feed from the dimmer control, then this would point to a bad connection to the dash insert.
You can see and try the connectors( behind the speedo) if you remove the fuse panel cover and the trim panel above the pedals (four screws in total)
If all of the dash lights are out then check the fuses.
This may not be your problem, but it is the start of an illimination process.

ok,thanks but the worst thing has happened.... the lights have came back on themselves...
so not sure what the problem was and it will come back to haunt me later on no doubt!
