Hi I have part exchanged my a6 multitronic 2.5 tdi to a manual 1.9. When I test drove the new car, engine felt very good/strong.
However soon I came to realise that at idle, there is a lot of vibration, engine sounds thunderous - car shakes like an old double decker bus, but the engine rev is constant however ~ 900rpm. If I press the accelerator slightly the vibration dissapears and it is all much quieter.
Is that normal, does anyone else has this problem?

    Hi
Mine used to idle unevenly and sort of shudder a bit, i cleaned the EGR valve / throttle body and it improved it no end.
The car now idles evenly though if i turn off everything electrical it still shudders occasionally but turn on something like the climate control and the idle is perfectly even again...wierd or what..

Thanks, makes a lot of sense... It is not weird though, AC takes lots of electrical power so the idle engine rev changes when you switch it on - to compensate for the power need... as revs increase slightly, the shuddering goes... i guess...
EGR valve and throttle body are behing the airfilter housing... is it easy to get to them? What did you use to clean them?

I think that the flywheel is gone...you will need a ne DMF and a new clutch kit.

The mechanical EGR valve is on top of the engine the top of it pokes out through the engine cover.
The piece it's connected to is the throttle body i think.
its easy to get at, from what i remember you just take off the engine cover, pull off the 2 vacuum lines, pop out the circlip to disconnect the hose from the back of it
take out the 2 nuts on the small pipe that connects from the bottom of it to the exhaust
(i think i may have undone that pipe at the exhaust end to get it off because it was easier to get at)
and take out the 3 hex bolts that connect to the inlet manifold the bottom one was a right pain to get at.
I cleaned it with some liquid degreaser i had, an old toothbrush and a screwdriver covered with old rags
tried to be as careful as possible with the butterfly flap and the edges it closes onto.
pushed the egr valve open and cleaned around that opening to hopefully let it close properly.

dont know if that would be the recommended way to clean it or not

Hope its something like that and not the flywheel as mentioned above
