    Hi,

Refering to my prev. post on an MOT failed golf tdi :-

It failed on handbrake - holds one side but not the other (8%). The tester said it's a common problem on golfs due to it using the caliper as the handbrake. Is this true? Do rear calipers seize a lot on these?
Just asking because changing pads / discs etc I'm okay but calipers / bleeding / cable adjusting I know nothing about and don't have the equipment. I've got the front of the car up at the moment so can't look at the back for a couple of days but does anyone know if the brake cable can be adjusted and how as I don't have a manual? I'd buy one but -
    1. I'm tight!
    2. I've already spent over £200 and am about half way!
    3. Would rather adjust than renew.

    Cheers everybody

I've had the handbrake cable arm seize on my MKII. I sprayed plenty of plusgas on the arm (avoiding the disk/pads) and moved it about with a spanner. It would last for a while but would seize up again. I eneded up replacing both calipers. It's not that painful'a'job. I used a hose clamp and a bleed kit.
I don't think adjusting the cable will cure your problem. It'll be seized were the arm is on the caliper. Cable adjustment is down behind the handbrake cable for future ref.
    regards Boardboy
