Not sure if you mean the rear nearside or offside, assuming you mean the nearside then it is the area immediately in front of the bulkhead under the bonnet. Covered with a piece of plastic trim in the B5.5. There are two drain holes which block and cause it to fill up, this then leaks through a joint in the A/C inlet duct and into the car. It may appear in the front and/or rear. If left too long in the front it can damage the comfort module and may even prove to be expensive to repair.

Do a search on the forum it affects A4's, A6's Passat's and one or two others.

It could just be a door seal and the boot issue possibly unrelated and maybe just the boot lid seal?

    Hi Malc

If you mean the passenger side front - I had the same problem - all sorted via the advice from this forum.

Loads of threads dealing with the same thing, but this link explains the full solution including pictures.

There are some technical issues related to the water leak - servo problems and comfort module issues - search for these as well.

I also still have a slight leak from the pollen filter housing awaiting repair - another common problem it seems.

    Good luck

    Laurie

Yes Laurie I mean the passenger front. Not sure what side MAZI means though

I am well aware of the problem and check mine regularly. I don't park it under foliage at all either

Sorry Malc - replied to the wrong thread - just having a senior moment! I still find it difficult to understand how such 'quality' cars have basic design faults like the drain bungs. Spoke to VW today (well the local parts department) and asked if there was a recall on the pollen filter box leak - apparently cars over 4 years old are no longer re-called, although the issue is now on the service schedule!
