    Hi all,

I am about to venture into the sticky (excuse the pun) world of replacing the front tyres - 235x45x17Y.

I'm looking for the obvious, good dry & wet weather traction, quiet on m/way, rolling resistance for good fuel economy and long life. I currently have Avon ZZ3 fitted and I'm looking to change to another brand.

Any recommendations that would suit? I'm not too price sensitive as long as the tyres last for approx 20K before replacements are required.

    Any suggestions welcomed.

I always get Conti Sport Contacts by default from the lease company, good for grip, pants for lasting more than about 12000 miles

    Cheers

Thanks Richard. I've opted out of my Company Car scheme and so I'm running the car myself, hence why longevity is important. The Avon's I've got now aren't particularly quiet or grippy, and I appreciate your advice.

    Thanks

Whatever you get DO NOT get Event Tyres... I have mine on my A4 quattro (put on by the garage I bought it from to get it throught the MOT) and they are verging on dangerous! I have actually Spun the car in the damp on a roundabout.... although I was testing my boubts in the tyres at the time, but such a dramatic result was worse than I thought would happen

I had conti's all round when i first got my audi. Couldn't really fault them apart from the price. Replaced the front set after approx 30,000 miles. Went for some dunlop sports. Worst tyres i ever got.
They are fine in the dry but in the wet they slide all over the place.
After these worn out (approx 18,000 mile) i opted for the good year eagle F1 asemetrics (excuse the spelling). Wow what a huge difference. Great in the wet which lets face it most of us in the UK will require. Also great in the dry. Cant say i noticed much difference in road noise but good wet tyres was my priority. Only done about 5k on them and they still look good to me. They are 18's so it may not be relevant but thought i would share my thoughts.

I always fit Uniroyal (part of Continental) but for longevity I would only recommend Michelin.

The dunlop sportmaxx on my quattro that came fitted are very good in both wet/dry, pretty quiet too. Not sure on life as dunlops are usually quite soft. I expect about 15-16k or thereabouts...

TBH if you want a long life tyre you are going to have to compromise on handling and stopping power as it will have a harder compound. Personally I'd sacrifice a few thousand miles for a better tyre if the pennies aren't too important...

    Good Year Eagle F1 asymmetric.

Once my dunlops wear out which came with the car I will be getting a set of the Goodyears. Awesome tyres in dry and wet.

    Hey KQuattro,

I was just about to buy a pair of these for the front of my car.

Certainly seem to get good reviews, and I can get them for £124.50 each on mytyres.co.uk!! Really should have thought about tyres when I bought a car with 18's!!!

Go for it Paul, one thing is never to skimp on tyres, buy the best you can afford they make a huge difference.

EVO car mag did a big review of some of the performance tyres out on the market a while back and the Goodyear Eagle F1 asymmetric came out top overall from what I remember.
