Hello everyone wondering if anyone can help?
I have an Audi Quattro on an 05 plate it has the 2.0 t fsi engine and covered around 60k.
I have not had it long, BUT certainly know that I have a problem! im sure that the petrol engine sounds like a diesel (rattles)!
Now im no mechanic, and this is the first car with a turbo i have had, does the turbo really make such a sound or do i really have a problem?
In the past i have owned a Lexus is200 sport and a BMW 525i sport and they have been sound cars.
I was wondering if their is a common problem with the cars or is it fine? and am i worried for nothing?

    Please help!

Hi I have the 2.0T non-quattro and it certainly doesn't sound like a diesel (previously owned 1.9TDI) although it's only covered 30.000 miles

My turbo doesn't rattle either (makes a pretty cool whooshing noise)

I would get this looked at, as if it doesn't sound right something usually is wrong.

I'd go to the dealers and ask for one of their techs to have a listen to the engine. They won't charge for that, and if they say its ok ask to hear a similar engine next to it!!

At least that would let you know if it's just your engine or if it's supposed to sound like that!!

I've got an A6 3.2FSI and when I've got the bonnet up the engine does sound a little like a diesel! Think it's because of the way the fuel is delievered, as it's pumped under higher pressure to the cylinders!(allot like a PD diesel) much higher than a "normal" petrol engine...

I know my engine is okay because it's brand new fitted by Audi at a cost of almost 13k... I would use Castrol Edge 5w-030 (507 00) in it though, you can get it really cheap at Costco! 3x1Ltr for £9.97 plus vat...

Castrol Edge has FSI valve protection...

I'm going to use Shell V-Power petrol in it because it has 4 times the detergent! And 99RON! Happy days :-)

Timmytim you dont know how happy your response has made me...

You might be right it might be the way the fuel is delievered?
Like I have said in my previous posts my previous cars have been a Lex and a Beemar, all six cylinder engines.

Maybe its just me wanting to find a problem with the car?

What adds to the problem is the varied opinions of the mechanics, some say its fine, Some say it needs is an oil change and 1 has gone as far as it was the cam belt on the engine (or 1 of them!)? and it was a known problem to Audi!
He told me their were 2 belts, when you lift the bonnet not the ones facing you but on the off side, he said it was that making the noise and that it was a big job............ Yeh right!! My nick names "THE TERMINATER"

Thank you again for the advice and the tip on the oil Timmytim

Now I have something for you and any1 reading this!

Step 1: click on to www.national.co.uk

Step 2: click on to "PROMOTIONS" then "LATEST OFFERS"

Step 3: click "Offer 3" Then print

Go into your local National and get an oil and filter change for £37.00 and thats with Castrol Edge! But make sure you specify that you require Castrol Edge (at no extra cost) as they will usually put in Magnatec Zetec 5w-30 as default.

Once again thank you for your valid input Guys

Without listening it is difficult. My car sounds quite smooth and quiet now, but if you went right back the time I joined I made comments on how I had to check the badge to make sure I was driving a petrol. My previous Accord drove and sounded as smooth as ice. I guess the engines are just different. Mrs QV's MX5 revs upto 7k but does not sound as refined as the Passat which only goes to 6.4k ish.

    The VW revs freely too.

I guess I am saying it may well be just the noise it makes. There are plenty of 2.0FSI engines around you just need to drive around with the window down.

Hi Zak... No problems Hope all goes well with the FSI... If your unsure why not go down to a local dealer and have then take a look at it! Or find a Main dealer with a car with the similar age/mileage and go and take it for a spin. Open up the bonnet and see what it sounds like!...

Thanks for the advice on the Castrol edge! It's a very good oil. I found a big difference to my car when I dropped the Shell Helix and replaced it with the Castrol, even though it had only covered 200 miles on the new engine! The Castrol made the engine run smoother and it was quieter...

Let us know how you get on...
