I've seen a photo on the internet of a Passat with 20" rims on it and theres an old B5 Passat in my area with 20" rims on it

I think 18 is a good size, anything bigger looks excessive. In my own worthless opinion of course...

Boring I know, but I think you'll find that if you go beyond any size used by VW it invalidates your guarantee.

Quatrelle, I don't think having larger wheels than VW give invalidates your warranty. I had my car in getting clutch fixed (under warranty as it blew after about 1000 miles after I obtained the car) and I had my 18" OZ rims on and they said nothing to me about it. Thanks for the into Quatrelle, just a thought though, it may be worth checking out just in case of any future warranty issues

As far as warranty, I wouldn't expect any issues, insurance is another matter, just tell them

I suspect that unless the modification is related to whatever has failed then the warranty should be OK.

For example, if you chipped the engine and the clutch failed then it would be feasible for VW to claim that the extra stress had contributed to the failure. However, if your CD player failed then obviously that would have nothing to do with your engine producing more power.

Of course, a modification might have nothing at all to do with a failure, but the fact that it could have caused it would let VW off the hook.
