  1. Autoglym windscreen wash - safe to use?

    Hello all,

I'm now running out of my original tank of windscreen washer, which smells like the standard 'lemony fresh' vw stuff. I also stumped up for the Autoglym lifeshine treatment, and have a bottle of their concentrated screenwash in the valet pack. I've heard that changing types of wash can cause wierd smells and block the jet nozzles. So, am I safe to use the Autoglym stuff, or have people had bad experiences?

    David.

Had the bad smell in the screenwash tank on a previous car, but was not aware it had to do with changing the screenwash, but I suppose depending what they put in they could react.
I have some Autoglym screenwash but can't remember if I have used it yet as like you it came in a valet pack.

    Hi

Ive been using Auto Glym screen wash since my car was new, this was supplied in the life time shine pack also. Ive had no problems changing from the VW wash either. Find Auto Glym very good

Thanks very much for the replies. Exactly the type of reassurance I was looking for.

You will only get bad smelling water if you use a cheap screenwash, which contains too much detergent and not enough alcohol or bactericide to prevent bacteria from multiplying.

Why do you think that bucket of rain water in the garden goes stagnant?

Neat alcohol is available on supermarket shelves here at about 3€/litre. I always add a shot to a full screenwash bottle, helps cut through the crud.
