    Hi everyone,

Great forum - really looking forward to spending some time here!!

    Brief about me -

Confessed Audi nut. Had 3 Audi 80's over the last few years and now have moved on to the mk 4 golf. I've got two mk4's - a 98 1.9 tdi in Cosmic green with clear rear lenses, vw alloys and a factory fit 25th anniversary full bodykit. Looks fantastic!

I also have recently bought a 99 golf tdi in navy blue which is the problem.

Nearly 3 pages of failures on the MOT sheet!!!!!!!

I've replaced both wishbones and all discs and pads. There is play in the steering rack apparently and the exhaust centre mount needs welding. Several bulbs have blown including the front dipped beam lamp which was a pig to change. A few rear lamps have blown which don't present a problem but....

The whole point of this post - My rear numberplate lamps don't work - I can't find any blown fuses and I've interchanged the lamps with my other golf so I know they are fine but seems to be no power going to the lamps. Is this a common golfy problem and does anyone know how to fix?

    Many thanks,
    Guy

Check the earth first then, if that's ok I'd simply run a live from the working sidelights to the live of the numberplate light - cheap, easy and quick fix.

Open the tailgate and remove both panels covering left and right posts as this is where the connectors for your rear wiring are to be found. The loom seperates halfway up the post on the N/S(passenger side) so check for voltage and clean them if needbe but remember not to poke around with live current in the circut or youll shed lots of tears and cash and go through many rolls of toilet paper(when you recieve repair quotes). From the rear the loom goes roughly centre to the lower seat belt boltN/S(nearest the floor) (but part goes off under the rear seats to the a.b.s and fuel pump dont tamper with them££££££££££££).Last check item is the fuse box and under the fuse box area the relays and connector block with wires as they do corrode(accident or fire damage types usually).
