Hi guys I am about to purchase Golf GT Sport TDI 140 5 door, 07/57 6k on clock no options and Cloth interior Reflex Silver.

I have been offered vehicle with discount for £13,500 and just wanted to know if this was a good price. Any advice would be appreciated have until tommorrow to decide.

    Few more questions:

    1. Depreciation what is it like for such vehicle
    2. Any know problems
    3. Is there a remap thats that is undetectable from main dealer + will increase mpg
    4. Can not confirm yet but think vehicle has DPF is this an issue for car to be used in London mainly.

    Thanks

I can do you a remap that when the dealer plugs their diagnostic equipment in it will appear standard.

Or can sell you an ST3 which gives you the ability to set the car back to standard, plus you get 2 mod files. Your choices with this are.

    Eco +20hp +60nm
    Fast Road +30hp +80nm
    Race +45hp + 105nm

    Thanks, Mark

Can I ask if you bought the car from a dealer?? and what was the asking price?? I only ask because I will be after a 140 Tdi in late August and will have £14K max to spend (I'll want it chipped too!!) but of course the wife wants to use some money for the house
Anyway, I'm hoping to get at least a grand off (so I will be looking at cars around £15K) so your experience of that of others would be a great help...
    All ther best

It is coming from dealer - I started by doing search on VW website and called all dealers with 140 gt sport 07/57 under 10k. I was not sure what was going to get but thought I might get a deal considering all the main car groups are losing money big time (Lookers, Pendragon, Arnold Clark) to name but a few. I told them all I was looking to get car this week and looking for the best deal I can get dont care who from but must be main dealer. After being offered the token free tax and first service I started to ask for silly amounts off like £3k which was refused by everyone (about 15 dealers around country). After a week still had no vehicle as the dealers would not budge, then after leaving it for 2-3 days most of them started to call back trying to do a deal = Golf GT Sport 140bhp, Reflex Silver, 6381 miles, Long Life Servicing, no additional options and I have to also pay for tax which a found out today (Only £100 so no worries there).

I am sure you will get as good a deal or even better than mine if you are purchasing in August as all the rep cars will be coming back so I am sure there will be a few back in the market. If you want I can give you details of contact after I purchase mine.

    Hi ashadam
Thanks for the reply - good for you! On another forum I was told that VW dealers (Like all others) are feeling the pinch from the credit crunch - there just aren't many people buying luxury items like cars at the moment..
When you asked for £3k off (pretty brave & cheeky) what did discount did you manage to get in the end?
Here on the south coast I've been keeping tabs on prices of suitable cars from VW dealers in southampton, basingstoke and guildford for example. That way I can say such and such car has been on sale for so many weeks etc.
Like you I'm tempted to go for a re-map but the insurance side could be tricky, as theoretically the 170 model is group 16 while the 140 is 12-13, I'd be looking at the DIY solutions like the ST3 which I believe you plug into a lap top..best get a car first..
    Cheers
    John

Hi I managed to get 2k in the end although that is debatable, I think you need to widen your search as all dealers will arrange delivery of vehicle from anywhere in the country. Arnold clark in Scotland is a large group and generally have a lot of vehicles but you need to speak with each branch individually. I just made the dealers aware that I will not spend more than 13k and will keep calling dealers until I find the right deal.

If you get car on finance most vw dealers will arrange for you to sign documents at nearer branch If one available. This is certainly the best deal we have had to date though. Not sure about all this remap stuff as insurance (£393) is high already considering the price of car. I think we may change radio for nav although tom toms work better than oem, you just can not beat the look.

Dont foget widen your search you only need to find one dealer that needs to sell and you will get a deal have card ready when calling. I found the dealers to far better when you dont have to see them and waste time haggling. The funny thing is no dealer said to me the price I am looking to pay is impossible just that they did not have the margin. I will get some pictures up shortly going to see car tommorrow but can not collect until Tesday.
