Just a quick question I have a 1999 A4 B5 and the red Air Bag light stays on constantly I have had a quick look in the manual and I recon its going to be a dealer reset job.

    Many thanks.

you can reset it dead easy with a cheapo ebay vag com cable (about £15). cheaper than dealers and you will also know which airbag is causing it - probably one of the seat airbags.

if it don't come back on when cleared you are laughing. if it does come back on then it is probably the connectors under the seat.

i bought one of these and it works great, easy to carry and you can keep in the glove box,you can read codes and clear them as well, ideal if you dont have a laptop and it took less than a week to turn up and no import tax to pay either

It is worth noting that even with one of these cables depending on the fualt it might not clear the light. I tried with a VAG-COM cable but I had an error which indicated the airbag ECu had got itself into a crash state.

Reading around and asking a couple of specialists they all said it needed a new airbag ECU and Audi were the only ones who could do this and they were wanting about 100 quid diagnosis at least but then likely about 700 to fit.

I ended up finding a tool on ebay whicih resets the airbag ECu meaning it doesn't need replacing. Afterwards normal VAG-COM revelaed that all the codes coming back were now normal, saved me a fortune.

This is only good IF your resetting with VAG-COM doesn't do the trick.

This is what I bought :-

I have taken apart my air bag wiring in the drivers seat on an a4, on one end of the plug i was getting continuety between the blue and black wires , this was after actually cutting the plug from the wiring just didnt seem right? Wired it all back the same as it was but still have light on. Since seen on youtube a guy cutting out the plugs and using bullet connectors. Just wondering is the reading i was getting correct or should the wires not be connected. The plug does seem to have a manufacturered bridge so wasn't sure if it was supposed to be like it.
I have now rewired the seat and cancelled fault codes with the fault code scanner and everything seems fine.

Just in case someone still has the same problem, I needed to follow all of the above directions plus see to the airbag in the steering wheel.

    VAG-COM
    Under seat connection
but also I needed to give the air bag connection a bit of seeing to under the air bag. (disconnect battery, turn wheel undo torx screw, turn wheel other way undo torx screw, pull air bag off, release both connectors, give both contacts bit of wd40 spray, connect and disconnect a few times, put it all back together, reset code... job done).
