  1. 1998 A4 & ELM327/Vag Com Problem

I have bought an ELM327 Unit from a reputable dealer on E-Bay (Yes I know!!), and I am using the official Vag Com software through my lap top.
The unit fires up fine and displays the basic functions, (ie: RPM, Engine Temp, Oil Pressure, etc.).
And states that there are no fault codes to report. But no other functions are available as it states that the car is not ODB II compatable, when I know it is. Also I can not access the EPROM or other areas at all. Does anyone have any idea as to what may be wrong, or how I can get this system to recognise my car. I have an Audi A4 Avant 1.9 TDI, with a build date of 1998 ( Registerd in 1999) The ELM327 is Version 1.2a and the Vag com software was downloaded from the recognised site.
Please help as this is doing my head in. Many thanks.

My first port of call would be the supplying vendor, they sell the product, they should be able to offer support for it

But, from my limited experience with this interface, I don't beleive it's suitable for use on VAG vehicles.

I'd suggest purchasing a dedicated KKL lead, or an official rosstech dongle interface from one of their distributors.

Many thanks for that. I did contact the vendor, and they gave me lot's of assistance, and finaly replaced the unit, but there is no difference, they also confirmed that it should work on my A4.
It looks as if I will have to try your sugested dongle. so, again many thanks, greatly appreciated.
