    Hello all,
Finally decided to move on from my old Golf and ordered the 2.0 TDI Ltd Edition in black on Saturday from my local dealership. I'm only leasing it but hopefully that still counts enough to join the gang? I've gone for the Multitronic and having the leather thrown in along with the DVD Nav sounds good. Should get it some time in August. Please don't tell me any horror stories!

<Clears throat> Just remember to change the transmission oil and filters every 40,000 and keep it in warranty. Do a search on "Multitronic" on here for more details but DON'T PANIC!!!!

However if you do the above I think you should be OK. Not gloating you understand I'm the proud new owner of a 2.7 Le Mans Multi.

The Multi is a different driving experience even to my previous Passat TDI 140 DSG. Sort of a relaxed drive until you put it in Sport :-)

By the way, if you own a iPod the Audi Music Interface (AMI) is worth every penny. If its too late to add it to your order it can be retro fitted.

If you are coming out of a Golf parking could be a 'new' experience, the A6 is a big beast!

    Evening masonj,
Thanks for the replies, much appreciated and congratulations on your car. I'd not quite realised how much the subtle improvements in styling had come on until I went to the showroom at the weekend.

Anyway, as I've only recently gone through 50k in the Golf in 7 years I should be OK on the 40k filter changes. I do feel a little dirty getting the CVT transmission having been a very interested follower of Torotrak and their IVT box for a number of years (I even got a drive in one at an AGM several years ago). I'm having the iPod connector fitted before it arrives and also parking sensors. As you say it's quite a different beast. Part of the test drive involved sticking it in my garage. I'm just going to get to where ever I'm going for the first month or so an hour or two early so there's plenty of space!

I have a nearly new A6 2.7tdi Avant Le Mans, and the ride is dreadful. Crashes over every road imperfection. Tyre noise awful. It's in the dealers to investigate a rattle from underneath which is totally annoying and difficult to locate, plus the tailgate fills up with water. Wish I'd never bought it. 13 years ago I had an A4 Avant 2.8tdi which was a far better car!

    Hello all,

I noticed the web site and thought I'd join, there looks like there’s a wealth of tips etc.
I was disappointed to hear you had a problem with your Le Mans, I just ordered a 2.7 Le Mans Saloon in Avus, with all the extras, Sat Nav MMI high etc.

I was just a little surprised to read that you thought the ride was harsh, didn't you notice this when you went for a test drive, plus read the reviews.

I'm coming out of a company lease C220D Merc, and the thought of having a car that doesn't feel like an old 4 poster on wheels was one of the things that attracted me to the A6 Le Mans. Not criticising just curious.

Any way the real reason I'm writing is that after I had done months of homework on Broadspeed and other such web sites, in the end I managed to get a slightly better deal through my local Audi main agent (£4k under book). The shear mention of Broadspeed and other website seemed to bring the lights on in an instant when discussing with the sales person. Worked for me..

Interesting, when I was getting my 2.7 Le Mans 3 local dealers could not get anywhere near Drave The Deal.

I got £3k off a brand new 2.0 TDi multi in March last year - mentioned drivethedeal.com and it was cake from there.

The multi with the 2.0 TDi is not great. Good when it works, but it has it's 'ways' that take some getting used to - check my previous posts for multitronic and10k service intervals.

Howver, it's my 2nd A6 (had an 05 manual) and I love them. Had some issues with the last one (minor), but put them down to the fact it was a brand new model. This one's been great, gearbox and service issues aside.

If the Ltd Edition is based on the S-Line (which I think it is), then the ride will be very hard. The ride is firm on the SE and 17" alloys. Bigger alloys and sports suspension make it firmer still.

Thanks for depressing me Phil! I'm not a boy-racer so hopefully a more sedate pace will match the gearbox OK. I'm just looking forward to having a bit more space ) Build date confirmed as w/c 21st July and I think I've sold the Golf to a mate and got a grand more than the dealership were offering.

Didn't mean to depress you - sorry. As you can see, I've bought two, and would consider another (they're having a facelift next year). I'm 6ft 4" with two young kids so I need plenty of space in the cabin and a big boot - the A6 has both.

The multi takes a year or so to bed in - it's a lot thirstier than the manual, and that's the only thing that irritates. It does get better over time though, but I used to get over 50 mpg on the manual over a distance, and it's 40 mpg on the auto. Around town it's closer though (once run in). I'm not sure why the DSG auto doesn't go in it as it's much more efficient.

The multi tends to rev high even when going slowly about once every couple of weeks, for about 10 miles. I've had some software updates to cure it, and, to an extent, it has worked (it was doing it every day). Basically what happens is that the revs suddenly stick at around 1500 rpm even when you're going 5 mph. When you stop they drop straight to 1000 rpm. Normal idle speed is about 850 rpm. It's bloody irrirtating and you need to be on your guard as it feels like the throttle is stuck open. Apparently it's a 'feature' of the 2.0 TDi multi as it has a Diesel Particle Filter (DPF). The smaller diesel engines don't attain a high enough temperatur to burn off the residual particles, hence why it feels the need to rev high.

Hope that helps, but enjoy the car, they're great (generally........!)
