    Hi frds,

I have got my passat back after fuel pump failure (as per my last thread). The dealer now suggested me to buy three year extended warranty from RAC I think. Around 300-400 per year. mine is 55 Reg 2.0 Tdi SE and has done 71000 miles. So not under VW warranty.

First question is should I buy one? what i will be covered or not coverd?

Second question is should i buy from VW or AA or any others?

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers

I think the important thing is to read the smallprint - some are better than others (an useless generic statement, I know)

How much is a VW warranty out of interest?

Don't know if you can see this http://www.warrantyquoteonline.co.uk/op.html but it's the warranty that I'll probably be taking out on my Passat once I get to 60k - it's £191

I'll keep an eye on this post and let you know what I find out. My car is in the same situation - 73k, 3 year old and out of warranty after just having the fule pump fitted under good faith at xmas.

Don;t want another shock around the corner... VW do this one and it covers what you would expect - subject to terms and conditions of course. Can't see any costs though, but I suspect that is different for every car and condition/age etc...

Thats no good JTW, it only covers cars that have done less than 70k... VW seems to the be best bet, at least it can be used at the ********...

Sorry, I didn't note the mileage - my bad.

I am, however, going to call my GF's stepbrother to see what the "family" rate is for an extended warranty...

Hi, I just spoke with VW extended insurance and the guy told me they can't give me extended warranty now because car has done more than 60K. So this option is gone.

I checked on internet last night and there was primum warranty for £514 for three years. I cant remember the website now because I did not save that. I will check again and tell you the details of the cover later on.

One question which im not sure and wants your advice. My car's cam belt needs changing soon because its approaching 80K, so will i be able to get this done under the warrnty? I am just thinking I will spend around £300 to change this any way so why not buy warrnty for £514 then?

Domoesto and I are on the same boat!! I am confused should I spend this money or not?

The cam belt is scheduled maintenance so there's no way this would be covered under a warranty of this type - if a warranty paid for this then it would probably be paying for tyres and oil changes as well.

Indeed, if you didn't get the belt changed and the it snapped and ruined your engine they you wouldn't be covered because you didn't stick to the manufacturer's maintenance schedule.

You will have to pay for both. Your Cambelt is not warranty work, jsut standard maintenance. Best quotes I have got so far for a full toothed cambelt change from my usual ******* is £440.63

I haven't had chance to play them off against each other yet - if anybody knows of a cheaper quote from a ******* then please let me know who...
