2005 Sharan 1.9Tdi PD Aircon problem

Hello,

Recently had a few days when the Climatronic control unit started behaving oddly, flashing when the car was first started. Cleared within 2 minutes so lived with it. Then the aircon stopped working.

Had the car re-gassed, but indep aircon engineer diagnosed compressor fault, so replaced compressor. All was well for a fortnight. Now, unfortunately, air con is almost non-existent with just occasional slight cooling.

Not sure whether this fits any 'standard' symptoms, so though to check here for any wise guidance from someone who has already been through this problem.

Not sure whether it is a component failure somewhere in the aircon system, a leak, an electronic fault - or what?!

Is it possible to put the Climatronic unit into a fault finding mode and pull off error codes?

When the climatronic unit starts flashing at start-up it means that it has detected a fault in the system with an associated fault code.

This can normally be read off with something like VAG-COM from the climate control module and the code assessed. Hopefully pointing out what the problem is.

I'd find out what it thinks is up before changing anything else, possibly try clearing the fault first to see if it is a persistent problem and it reoccurs.

Getting an old laptop, cable and VAG-COM is a worthwhile investment if you plan to do any work on the car or find a friend who has one .. 8-) as somethings can't be done properly without access to the modules. There is at least one user/vendor on the forum who sells these and has posted many times with information.
