I have a 1.9 TDI which I am changing the cam belt on. The problem I have is that in Elsa win it shows a different tensioner to the one I have.

My tensioner sits on an eccentric plate which has a lug that fits into a recess in the rear housing to fix it in place. You then tension it by inserting a hex key in the front and rotate clockwise . The rear plate has u in it and when you tension a pointer attached to the pulley moves over this. the tensioner I took off had the pointer about 5 mm to the left of the u.

How do I tension this tensioner to the correct amount? Should it be over the u position?

I can send some pics if required

    Please help a bit stuck!!

    Thanks

    Paul

Picture 1 is from Elsa Win for my car.

My tensioner is different - see picture 2 which is it fitted to the car in approx the same position as the old one.

My chassis no is WAUZZZ4B53N114092 - THE ENGINE CODE IS AVF 130PD. Couldn’t find the number!

The part no of the tensioner is : 038-109-243-M

Sorry just to confirm both the old and new tensioners are the same as per pic 2. I just need to know how to set it up correctly.

    Thanks

Remove the Elsa pic please, it is not allowed to use copy write protected material on here and you will get your wrists slapped. The tensioner you show in the diagram is the earlier hydraulic type and you can’t just swap from that to the friction type. Did your car have the hydraulic tensioner before? It shouldn’t have.

My car has the friction type in pic 2. I am not changing types. All I need to know is how to set up a friction type tensioner.

Obviously your copy of you know what is too old to contain info on the friction type. PM me your email.
