  1. Lupo Cambelt Change - What do I need?

    Hi All,

I've just bought a 2004 1.0l Lupo that is ready for a cambelt change.

I've bought a kit and waterpump from my local motor parts shop (GSF) but wondered if there was anything else I needed.

The kit had one belt, one bolt and one tensioner (plastic roller on a bit of metal if that's what it is)

Is that all that's needed? I've heard an idler mentioned, do I need one of those too?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

The belt kit is VW part number 030 198 119 B and cost £45.83 from VW and includes belt 030 109 119 S, tensioner 030 109 243 L, bolt N 010 361 12 and washer N 011 525 20. The water pump is 030 121 008 C and costs £31.96 genuine for an exchange part so that would be CX at the end of the part number. For the timing belt itself, that is all you need unless you wish to add a poly V belt and tensioner when you are in there. The timing belt could not be easier to change and no locking pins are required. The most important part is setting the tensioner correctly by turning the adjuster clockwise until the pointer is in line with the notch.

Wow! Thanks a lot for a very thorough answer. Looks like I've got all I need.

    Many thanks again
