    Hi Guys

Simple question, which oil do you guys usually use when servicing the 1.8T engine, i have been given two different grades

5W 30- Fully Synthetic- (Apparently needs changing every 5K dont fancy that really)

    or

10W 40 Semi Synthetic (but apparently can block the sump strainer??)

    any replies apprecaited

    thanks

It would seem that using a lower quality oil in the 1.8T engine can cause a "sludge" which can cause the oil pickup in the sump to become blocked and hence starve the engine of oil. The turbo seems to be to blame as it runs so hot it can carburise the oil, thats why you are supposed to let the engine run on tickover for a few minutes to let the turbo spool down and cool down. I would personally run on fully synthetic (VAG do a long life oil) and change it at 5 to 6K, along with the oil filter. There is a bigger oil filter you can get, read some of the posts on this site.

welcome to the joy of the 1.8t engines
oil change every 5000miles with Fully Synthetic oil
or wait for the low oil presure warning light.

even though still a cracking engine
