Hi all, my boot lock central locking actuator died recently. I purchased a new one and have just fitted it. Unfortunately this has not solved the problem. Checked on the circuit drawings and it seems this device is supplied directly from the central locking control unit via a blue wire and a green wire. Common sense tells me its got to be one of these two at fault now. All other functions of the central locking and alarm system seem to be fine. I was wondering if anyone has come across a similar problem before. Does anyone know where the controller is located, is it straight forward to change it? Also, is the lock actuator 12v or does the controller use lower voltages?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Cheers, Dave

The Convenience unit is under the dash to the right of the steering column. Before you do anything, get it read for fault codes. Operate the rear wash wipe wash function with the boot lining off to see if the rear washer fitting is leaking water into the motor is leaking.

Cheers Crasher, should this be done with Vag-com?

It can be done with VAG-COM but if you take it to a garage, they will usually have a universal fault code reader.

Read the unit for faults with vag-com, it reported 00943 and 00944, heated mirror faults, but nothing re the central locking. The rear wash wipe has leaked previously so I replaced the motor unit and connector, the pipe connector then split in the roof lining which i promptly repaired.
Does the whole dash have to come out to access this module then? Was thinking of checking the continuity of the wiring to the boot actuator. Is it common for just one function of the module to go down?
    Thanks

The convenience unit is accessed by removing the lower dash trims. The mirror codes are normal, it just needs new glasses fitting (silly money) but failure of the tailgate unit is usually the result of water dropping on the unit or corrosion to the wring behind the trim panel on the left floor pan edge due to screen wash water, on my Octavia I had major damage to the connectors and soldered joins. The reason screen wash water additive is so corrosive these days it contains huge amounts of salt as the old additives were deemed too “unfriendly” to the environment. The more I think about this Eco rubbish, the angrier I become.

Thanks Crasher, do you have any further info on which trims to remove to get at the connector. I'm pretty sure the wiring for the boot lock actuator runs down the right hand side of the car, as the wires seem to exit the tailgate on the right side of the hatch.

    Cheers Dave

It runs to the front on the left. VW describe it as being on the left C pillar but it is more on the floor below the pillar. The connector you are after (described by VW as “5-pin connector, brown, connector point left C-pillar”) is brown, has five pins and the earth for the release motor is at pin 2 as a green wire and the power is at pin 4 as a blue wire.

Cheers Crasher, is it possible to test the connector at the CCM for continuity of the wiring without actually removing the CCM from the dash, i'm thinking that if the wiring is in tact with no current short, a previous short at the C pillar caused by any leaking fluid may have taken the output down on the CCM.

I would check the continuity of the wiring back to the conv unit and drive the solenoid by popping 12v down the appropriate wires. Getting to the conv unit is easy.
