Hi waynetdi130 - haven't done the wheel bearings, but in reponse to the caravan towing I find our 2ltr 130 (petrol) just fine. It pulls our van, no problem at all. Saying that, our set up is just about on the 80% rule. With a nose weight at about 75kg, it has been quite stable. Able to tow in 5th on the motorway at about 60ish with change downs to 4th for hills etc. Have had a few burns on the clutch - smells very fishy- when I've had to park up, but thats something I try to avoid. Fuel consumptions drops to about 20mpg.
Overall pleased with the car when it tows

    Hi ,
I have just towed a 1200kg caravan for about 2000 miles in France, I have a 1999 110 tdi. average 36 mpg with the van and tows very well. Went over the Bonhomme pass (8miles of up) no trouble. An all round good tow car.just keep to the nose weight of 75kg!! They don't like too much clutch work in reverse when you site up, so I try to keep that to as little as poss! Good luck...

The wheel bearing is a garage job as it needs pressing in and out on a hydraulic press.
