    hi i have a 1999 1.8 gti turbo, it has 98 k on it and is due a service, could comebody indicate what would be some good oil to use in it, like for cold engine starts, would like something thats recommended.

    I use the halfords own brand fully synthetic 5w30, it meets all VW specs (including long life service schedule) and at £40ish for 5 Litres is good value aswell.

    cooll thanks for the promp reply, how often should itbe changed, it has vw service history with it and was changed annualy or after a certain amount of miles, 12k i think

    I always use Castrol Edge, just got 9L off Ebay for £55 which probably works out cheaper than the Halfords brand.

    Got the number for the guy if you'd like to speak to him directly.

    Every year or 12,000 is about right but it never hurts to change it more frequently, I try to do mine about every 6,000.

    9L of Castrol edge for £55 is an excellent price, if you can get it for that then deffo the best bet, could you PM me the number aswell please, i'll most certainly get some.
