    Tiptronic or Multitronic?
I would try looking in the VAG COM User locations forum for somebody close to you who could scan your car for faults.

Mick, I only just bought my A6, but when I was sat reading through its history I stumbled across a warranty repair form. On the form it said the problem was difficulty in selecting Reverse. The repair section said the gearbox was drained and a new ECU fitted, which implies they have to get into the gearbox to access the ECU.

Apologies if this response is of no assistance, but I figured it was worth mentioning.

    Good luck mate.

Provided oil was correct stuff, and not dextron IV then it sounds like either a ball sticking in the valve pack, or a leaking piston in the box.

What you are describing is the box flareing, i.e. reving, but not locking into a gear.

You need to talk to a decent autogear box speacialist. You unit is a tiptronic, so it can be repaired, unlike the more modern CVT, which are best replaced.

best thing to do it put a question on the forum for a good Auto shop close to whereever you live.

Auto's are a bit of a black art, so you will only find a few shops that deal with them, compared to normal gearboxes.

I've done my own, but depending on the level of the problem can be quite tricky. If it's just a ball sticking that can be not too expensive, while a piston is a full rebuild.

Always ring up the guys at www.jpat.co.uk, as they deal with just about all the auto shops, so they should be able to tell you one in your area

    Hi,

If you live in Devon, I can tell you who not to use, but will not do it publicly. I had some good advice from these guys.
