I recently bought my golf and the remote central locking was working fine, but about a week ago it started to become a bit intermittent and I had to be closer to the car for it to work, and eventually stopped working altogether. I naturally suspected that the remote's battery had gone and have since changed it, but to no avail. Anybody have any ideas what might be the problem? Is there some special unlock code that you have to use if the battery is taken out of the key?

P.S. I know this might sound stupid, but is there anyway to open the boot when the remotes not working? I can't find a boot catch anywhere!

    Hi there,

You may need to re-sync your remotes to the car after changing the battery. The procedure for this should be in the manual.

As for the boot, if you lift the VW badge there should be a key lock under there if I remember rightly. You need to get down on your knees and look straight up into it to see it though.

    Hope that helps

Not sure about the key lock under the badge - I would go and look but it is dark outside!

However, I do remember seeing in the manual that to open the boot you need to crawl in from the back seats, remove the circular disc in the trim inside the boot door, and do something in there.
