I know most people come on here with moans, groans and problems and yes Passats do have they`re fair share of grief and hassle but speaking personally i`ve had many VWs over the years but my 54 plate highline estate is bloody brilliant...its done over130,000 with full vw history,i`ve had it for 6 months and apart from resetting the codes cos it said i had a faulty brake light switch it hasnt missed a beat or cost me a penny.....just like to say i really enjoy the site and find it really helpfull....come on people put some good stuff on here as well as your moans

    I agree tyreman1
I bought an 04 Passat Estate 130 TDI one year ago, now done 135,000 miles and it drives like a dream. Cruises virtually silently at motorway speed.

The only "issue" I've had was last month I was getting a very intermittent "emissions workshop" warning, but no loss of performance. Turned out to be a temperature sender, so no big deal.

Also, I've just posted about a new MFI problem which started this week, but again it isn't much of a to-do anyway. [EDIT: looks like it was nothing after all, just my mistake]

Just had a "Major Belts" service done, by independent. Be interested to know how this compares guys:

    • S/F new cam belt kit
    • S/F new water pump (purely precautionary)
    • S/F new auxiliary belt (precautionary)
    • Code read ECU
    • S/F new temp sensor

Parts and Labour £316 + VAT

Apparently they had trouble removing the casing because whoever did previous belts service, yes you guessed, a VW Main dealer, had rounded all the friggin nuts off.
