Sorry if this has already been posted somewhere on the site but i'm having a bad night, on the motorway on the way home tonight my golf lurched, there was a bang and a bump a belch of black cloud in my rear view mirror and a loss of power. I nursed it home and it was performing like a normal car, no turbo whine, no power really and revving upto 3k but dramatically reduced pull - What has happened???!?!?

Is it a fatal turbo loss, a split hose, injectors, clutch?? Please please could someone offer help and advice - thanks a million.

Not yet, turned it on on my drive and revved it and there was no horrible noise but afraid to take it our again, don't want to damage it further if it is a problem.

    Hi m8

The Symptoms you describe maybe point to the (MAF) Mass Air-Flow Sensor being dirty & need cleaning or possibly replacing.

Can't quite remember who posted, either Cracker or BigCol, but if you think your MAF is knackered and reckon cleaning it will help, you are wrong. Attempting to clean it will guarantee that it's knackered, so save yourself the bother, quote unquote, more or less...

I have a TDI130 and the same thing happened to me whilst on holiday, two garages would not look at it so i drove it home. The local garage found it to ba a split hose (under warranty). Lots of smoke and would not exceed 60 mph.
