    Hey guy's
I hope this is going to be a quick thread. The other day was just out stretching the cars legs as it had been sat for a couple of days and the DPF light flashed up at me then 10 minutes later went agian. i had done a couple of short trips during the week and was wondering if this was the problem or can i expect that to happen again soon? also, would vag-com tell me what went wrong?
    Cheers

the car needs a good long drive to get the exhaust gasses hot enough to eneble the DPF to perform its regeneration. too much pottering about is not good for the DPF

I had the same problem with my GT170, the DPF is a filter on the exhaust that reduces the emissions (and therefore your tax). I do a lot of town driving in it and this light came on, I stupidly ran it for a further week and the engine went into 'safe mode' and I booked it into VW. They identified the fault and fixed it (£200 - thankfully halved as I wasn't informed of the DPF when I bought the car). VW advise that the DPF engines need at least a 15 min at 50 mp/h or more once a week.
There's the waffle, to sum up, treat the light as a red rag to a bull, if the light comes on, go for a good motorway or country lane blast and that will cause a heat build up in the exhaust that will self clean the DPF filter. I'm no expert (really far from it!) but it only happened a couple of weeks ago so it's prety fresh in my mind!
