I have just booked my Passat in to have the rear windows and rear windscreen tinted. I have ordered 35% tint, but I'm thinking about 50% tint. Is 50% too dark or should I stick with 35%?. The car is black as well. Any help much appreciated.

How much? I think you'd need to be wary about what you can see out when it gets dark - also if the tint's too dark - won't it look a bit daft?

Yeah I was thinking that too much tint would look a bit stupid! I didnt really think about seeing out in the dark either lol! I'll stick to 35% tint, thats what the tinting company says is on the SEL models of the passat. Thanks for the help James

There is a legal limit to the amount of tinting, but I'm not sure if it applies to the rear windows. Might be worth checking....I think the police use a meter, and hopefully the tinters use the same meter.

I think it just applies to the windscreen and front door windows, not the rear door windows. Not sure about the rear window though.

I checked with the window tinting company and they said that it is legal to have any shade of tint from the B Pillar back, including the rear screen. The front windscreen must let 75% of light pass through, whilst the driver and passenger front windows must all 70% of light through. Hope this clarifies the issue for everyone
