Coolant light still on after topping up with coolant

Hi,

I have this prob on my A4 1.8 1997. Will it sort itself out, does it need a vag com reset, or could it be something else?

Ive filled up to the max line in the expansion tank, what could the prob be? Cheers

Hi You may have a faulty sensor in the expansion tank.Remove the contact and bridge the two wires,if the control light goes out,replace the tank.

Hey thanks for that, im getting paranoid the water pump is shot, but all the hoses are hot so I think that's fine.

I had a new stat and temp sensor a few months ago, and the car runs bang on 90 degrees.

Is the sensor the one underneath the tank? Ill try a spray of contact cleaner and see what happens.

Update...

took the expansion tank off, gave it a good clean out with the shower head and washing up liquid, got loads of crud out.

Light has now gone out, so must have been a dirty sensor. Result
