    Hello All,

my central locking ECU has packed up due to the footwell been flooded with water. I've now fixed the seal on the windscreen that was causing this and I've now locked a second hand unit at a breakers yard.

Can you just put the new unit in or do they have to be reprogrammed?

Note my central locking just works from putting the key in the lock and in NOT a remote key fob type.

The car is a 1998 passat tdi.

    Cheers

    Justin

It has to be correctly coded to the car (the code is in the original if it can be read or it will have to be calculated but it may already be correct) but the keys have to be matched to the unit using VAG-COM or similar.
